3 SEO Mistakes Businesses Often Make

If you’ve read any of our articles, odds are you’ve read a piece where we point out mistakes and or debunk myths (we really love those). That’s why we still get annoyed that many business owners, and even people in the industry don’t seem to learn how to do things properly and the same mistakes keep being repeated again and again. Here are some of them.

1. Ignoring mobile

After everything everyone wrote about mobile a few months back and with the idea about the Mobilegeddon, we’re surprised that there are still webmasters, bloggers, and business owners who keep ignoring the mobile crowd. With nearly half the people accessing the internet through mobile devices, it’s an SEO suicide to say, “Hey, you know what? I don’t care about all those people. So what if I lose so many potential customers…” Don’t ignore mobile.

2. Ineffective site structure

Of course, when you started building your website, you never thought that this would actually be a part of the SEO equation (maybe because a few years ago it wasn’t that big a deal). However, today it is and even though it’s not the most important factor, it still plays a role in the whole SEO thing, so pay attention to it and make sure that everything you want to be detected is crawlable and well-categorized and catalogued. Google appreciates that.

3. Poor objectives

Need we say more? In the immortal words of the doorman in Chuck Palahniuk’s novel Fight Club, “If you don’t know what you want, you end up with a lot you don’t.” This holds true for SEO, as well. Careful with your objectives.
