Single-page websites have become something of a new tendency. They’re great for something that is very specific and if your brand or business is like that, you might be tempted to try it. We understand why that it – it looks awesome. It’s simply amazing how all your information is one a single web page and you don’t have to constantly update and optimize and all the other stuff associated with a normal, multi-page behemoth of a website. Single-page is neat, clean, requires little to no effort, and would be cheaper to make. Also, since it’s a single page, you can go crazy on the designs. Sounds fantastic, right? Yeah, not really, though. It has become something of a professional deformation for us ask, “Mkay, and how do you optimize that?” When the answer begins with, “Weeeeeell…” we know that we’ve struck at the core of a potential SEO problem.
You see, the issue with single-page websites is that they do not conform to many of the norms other websites conform to and that makes them difficult to optimize. Imagine that you want to send a message to your friends because you’re organizing a party. One option is to do it alone (like a single page) and get the attention of all 2000 people you want to invite (you’re apparently pretty popular and you have lots of friends). The other option is to ask ten of your friends for help, so each of you gets 200 people. Which one is better?
Even if you don’t see it, it’s basically the same with the SEO of the site. On one hand, you only have one page that gets traffic and can be optimized. On the other hand, you have ten (or a lot more) that have the same function. Hence, you see the problem with optimizing a single-page website. That doesn’t mean they don’t have their place, but it’s highly specific.
