What is Semantic Search and Why Should You Care?
Semantic search is when a whole lot of resources are used in order to perform a search, rather than just keywords. There’s been a lot of that going in the past few years. So much so that Google launched Hummingbird in 2013 – a complete rework of their algorithms in order to better comply with those searches.
Many people today access the Internet though their mobile devices and naturally search in a semantic manner and digital assistants like Siri or Google Now have been programmed to handle this load and make sure that everything is translated properly to the search engine. At the same time, the search engine is trying to interpret what the person who is searching is actually looking for. That’s right, Google is trying to guess exactly what you want to find in order to deliver it. Think about that next time you watch “The Terminator”.
In order to have a better success when it comes to semantic search results, you need to have two things – high quality content and a clear idea of what your content represents. Google needs to be able to tell immediately what your content is all about in order to recommend it to people. Quality is an important factor for several reasons. First off, if your content is of a low quality, it will not do well no matter what. Even if it ranks, people will not be pleased, they will not share it, it will lose rank point. Second, even if it doesn’t, it’s not convincing, so unless you’re making money simply from people visiting your site, you want to make sure that everything is alright from this perspective. Semantic search is the future of SEO so better get used to it.
