SEO and social media used to be these two radically different concepts. One had to do with telling search engines that your content is worth something so it should be shown to people, and the other one had to do with directly telling people that your content is worth it and them reading it because they want to. This is not the case anymore. It’s not like SEO and social media have merged, but the world of optimization has become complicated enough to include other realms of online existence, and social networks are one of it.

And since the user of a search engine is someone who is, you know, looking for something, helping them find the best thing they’re looking for is what a search engine does and should do best. SEO is used to somewhat tip the scales in your favor when the users are looking for something in your niche. It tells search engines what you’re all about. However, this used to be a lot more direct in the past. Now, even though SEO is alive and well, it’s not the only factor that determines your ranking.
Social media helps let search engines know that people actually appreciate your content and care about what you have to say. This can increase your brand awareness and establish you as an authority. It’s also a great way to directly advertise your products and tell people what your company does and why they should choose you. However, bear in mind that this shouldn’t be too over the top.
